AMD will get some help from Sun Microsystems in the continued development of its Opteron server processors. Sun is a part of the HyperTransport consortium and sells Opteron-based servers, so any help it can give AMD will have a return. Or so David Yen, executive vice president of the scalable systems group at Sun believes.

"Over time, more intimate cooperation inside the processor chip will definitely happen," Yen said.
AMD declined to comment as to what degree Sun would participate in the development of future versions of Opteron, but said that the two would work closely in future with regard to the Opteron. Sun has years of experience in designing high-end processors so its input will be valuable to AMD.
