Sky unveils high definition TV

Sky has unveiled its High Definition (HD) TV service, which it plans to make available to customers next year. Sky One, a Sky Sports Channel and two film screens will be immediately available, as well as some popular movies like Spiderman 2 and House of Flying Daggers. Sky's HD services will be offered as simulcasts alongside existing services, and viewers in the UK will be able to pre-register for HDTV from 26 August. Sky reckons that by the end of 2006, HDTV will have become so popular that two million HDTV sets will have been sold in the UK. The technology offers customers offers clear, lifelike pictures and sound, as well as other enhancements. Details about subscriptions for the Sky service are due to be made available in the next few months.
