Yahoo plans global internet television network

Yahoo has its eye on developing a global internet television network, and will be inviting British broadcasters to provide programmes. Yahoo has already begun showing television online, and recently gave a debut to Supernatural a week before the show aired on regular TV. Yahoo may seek, though, to cut the traditional broadcast network out of the process. The company has not ruled out acquiring a broadcaster.

"I should assume that we will commission our own programming," Terry Semel, the chief executive of Yahoo!, said. "What will it look like? I don’t think it will look like broadcast — that’s too good. It has to have its own personality."
