Dual-Core Xeons Available Soon
Starting this October, Intel will be releasing their long awaited Dual-Core Xeon Processors, with speeds starting at 2.80Ghz. These new processors, according to a ZDNet interview with Dell, have a performance increase greatly desired, with a 2.80GHz Xeon Dual Core outperforming a 3.60GHz Xeon in multi-threaded benchmarks. These new processors all also support EM64T extensions, letting the many businesses relying on the Xeon have an upgrade path for 64-bit migration in the future. Intel was a bit late in the dual-core server CPU game, but now we will see if they can come around. With big players like Dell at their side, dual-core Xeon will have no problem making itself known.
