IBM has today announced several new UNIX systems. These new systems, which are part of the IBM System p5 series, use an enhanced version of IBM’s Power5+ chip, and are available with AIX, Red Hat, or Novell SuSE Linux. Performance tests have yielded some very good results, with the p5 line scoring top results in 14 key performance benchmarks, in enterprise resource planning, web and file serving and much more.

"The new Power5+ systems… bring a faster, more energy efficient processor that boosts speed, performance, and value for today’s most intensive mission critical applications," Adalio Sanchez, general manager of IBM System pSeries, said in a statement.
