Oracle has bought open source database technology developer Innobase, for an undisclosed figure. The company is responsible for marketing InnoDB, an add-on storage engine for MySQL. That is distributed under the GNU GPL open-source license, and is part of MySQL.

"Oracle intends to continue developing the InnoDB technology and expand our commitment to open source software," commented Charles Rozwat, Oracle VP for databases and middleware. "Oracle has already developed and contributed an open source clustered file system to Linux. We expect to make additional contributions in the future."
