Google may launch a new service dubbed "Google Base" that may well attempt to rival eBay, Amazon, and Craigslist by offering users the ability to list everything from used cars to real estate.

"Google is maybe striking at the heart of eBay by offering a perhaps free venue for individuals to list items for sale," said Derek Brown, an analyst with Pacific Growth Equities.

Yes, I would like that. I would also hope that google would be better than ebay and amazon in banning bad users and detecting frauds faster and maybe also a little cheaper!

good deal.. free venue's a plus... but as nimo said, it's absolutely necessary they implement strong security, especially with free venues... you know there will be a problematic amount of fraudulent item posts, and I hope to god they don't use that disasterous payment solution... i think some call it, paypal... not my pal
