Microsoft aiming to sell 1m Xbox 360s in Japan

Yoshihiro Maruyama, the business manager for Xbox Japan, has said that Microsoft plans to sell one million Xbox 360s in that area by summer of next year. Of course, this is only a target, but Maruyama is confident that the company will manage to sell that number of Xbox 360s by this date.

"And then we'd like to go to 1.5 million, then 2 million in next year's end of year sales rush," Maruyama continued.
The hope is therefore that the next generation Xbox will do better in Japan than its younger sibling, the original Xbox, sales of which have yet to reach the 500,000 mark in that area. The Xbox 360 is set to launch in Japan on December 10th. The price of the console will be YEN 39,800 for the hard drive equipped version of the console.

This is considered garbage to me seeing as how the US only got about 11k 360's and a much smaller country is getting a million? What happened?
