Alereon and Samyoung Electronics, based in Korea and Texas, will soon be partnering to develop a WiMedia Phy Module. Alereon currently develops technology for Wireless USB, something soon to take off for sure, and other forms of WiMedia. Samyoung develops “LTCC” modules, designed to support high speed wireless USB transfers.

"This is an exciting first step in bringing WiMedia and Certified Wireless USB capability to mobile products. Leveraging our expertise in the development of Bluetooth modules for cell phones and related mobile applications, we expect to have a variety of products to meet the size and cost demands of today's mobile electronics." said Young-Shin Lee, R&D Director of Samyoung Electronics.

Wireless USB is one of those things that currently isn't mainstream, but likely will become it. Universal devices and wireless are both loved and for sure co-development will help these two companies compete. Read the full press release here.

I'm more surprised they didn't do this sooner. With the amount of mobile phone, digital camera, PDA, MP3 player, etc, they will make huge profit from it. This is the era of wireless. And bluetooth is sooo slow, transferring 100 pictures from a mobile phone to a computer takes forever.

Wireless is the future. Wireless USB, hard drives, wireless keybords (done), wireless mouse (done), wireless internet (Check!) etc... The world is going wireless. I mean, who likes wires? The only time i like them is when you can see them in my gameboy and they're neat!

cyrax, it's Samyoung, not Samsung. It's a rather unknown company. Here's their website: http://www.samyoung.co.kr/main_eng.asp. Alereon is more familiar and has a better connection to wireless products, as it specialize in wireless solutions. Here's their website: http://www.alereon.com. I Hope I helped to clear things out.One of the greatest advantages of USB is its 5V power. I don't think other connection options have this. Obviously wireless USB won't have any power connection. So what we'll do with MP3 Players that can be recharged only by USB ?
