Microsoft releases Beta 2 of Windows Defender

For those of you looking to further your assault on spyware, malware, popups and others, Microsoft has released Beta 2 of Windows Defender. If you are already using older versions, it should notify you of a newer version being made available, and if not it is a free download. It offers no virus protection, of course, but has proven itself useful among other programs in the past. It actively runs in the background like some others, and is at least worth a try. According to Microsoft, there are over 25 million machines using it currently.

I suppose this is a good program for when the user has no anti-virus or any other protection program (which should never be the case, but I digress). But I have to admit I don't like it when programs linger in the background, hogging resources; and this is Microsoft we're talking about, I don't think I want to know how much resources it takes to run and keep it running around in the background.

I have actually found this program to be most beneficial and would hearily recommend to everyone to download this free Beta. And for those of us running XP 64-Bit edition (where there are no anti-virus programs currently available) this will definately address your computers security needs.
