Sony has claimed that it is still trying its best for a Spring release of the PS3, but that this could face delay if industry specifications for some of its technologies are not finalised soon. A spokesperson for the company said that they were currently awaiting final specifications on some of the technology they are using in the PS3, including the Blu-ray drive.

"We're waiting for them until the last possible minute, but the launch could be pushed back if they're not decided soon," the spokeswoman said. If the PS3 is not ready in time, the company will choose the next best timing for the launch, she said.

 1. Sounds like I can count on not buying a first gen PS3. If they have to scramble to meet any changes in the industry spec its likely to be shoved through QC and onto shelves.
 2. It'll be Q2 or Q3. Nintendo will do the same. They're not really that worried by the 360. I mean, most are still happy with their PS2s.
 3. bad bad bad sony their shares went down when they anounced that they are delaying release and each ps3 will cost 900+ dlls to make i think sony will loose its grip on the 70% of control it had on the console market to either microsoft or nintendo
 4. I read this as: "Sony may have to delay the PS3 because it is exploring different ways of restricting fair use via obstructive blu-ray technology"
 5.
I read this as: "Sony may have to delay the PS3 because it is exploring different ways of restricting fair use via obstructive blu-ray technology"
LOL!If they continue like this we'll see first see "Cell"'s power in IBM servers before the PS3 is released.
