Brighter future for Itanium?

According to the IDC, Itanium servers are expected to outgrow the overall server market, growing to $6.6bn by 2009. 35 per cent compound annual growth is expected for Itanium servers, compared with 3.4 per cent for the overall market. This is in contrast to earlier speculations, which had focused on initially disappointing sales for the Intel chip architecture since its launch, with some market analysts claiming that the architecture was dead. However, the 500 enterprise users interviewed for the IDC study showed a high customer satisfaction with the systems.
