Toshiba will delay release of HD-DVD players

Toshiba will most likely be delaying HD-DVD player releases in the U.S. by a few weeks. Originally looking to deploy HD-DVD players this month, they will be pushed back until mid-April to better match the release dates of the first HD-DVD titles. Either way, they are still beating BluRay by a month or more, with Sony not coming to market until May. Releasing a player without anything to play on it does sound a bit bogus, so the delay makes sense. On April 18th, the first HD titles are expected, so it is likely that the 18th will also be the date the player is released, which is expected to retail in the U.S. for around $500.
