Intel's Merom core to have four variants

Intel's up and coming mobile dual-core series, the “Merom” Core, will have two forks compromising four total CPUs, at least initially. The CPUs, now being called Core 2 Duo, will have both 2MB L2 cache and 4MB L2 cache varieties, with a 1.83GHz 2MB version and a 2GHz, 2.16GHz and 2.33GHz 4MB version. These will be called the T5600, T7200, T7400 and T7600 respectively, and will all support a 667MHz FSB. All of these are set to be in product before the end of this year, though the low-voltage and ultra-low-voltage variants won't make an appearance until next year, so many may wait for those as the demand for mobility continues.

  1. I really think they should have kept all the old names, like Pentium D, Pentium M and so on.
