What will mobiles be made to do next? In the UK, the BBC and ITV are to begin trials of mobile TV services. A six month experiment will be carried out with handset makers LG and Samsung, initially offering the BBC News 24 channel and an undisclosed ITV channel. If the companies are happy with the results, this could well pave the way for many more channels being available via mobile TV.

Exact dates of the trial are yet to be revealed, but it should take place later this year. It will work via a subscription service provided by mobile phone companies, and will likely cost about £10 a month. The BBC declined to comment on the trial.
