Lord of the Rings fans will be pleased to hear that Electronic Arts have today announced the all-new role playing game "The Lord of the Rings - The White Council(TM)", for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360, due for release late 2007.

The game will feature an original storyline derived from J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings novels, and will allow players to take on the role of a man, an elf, a dwarf, or a hobbit to fight the good fight and become a hero allied with the White Council (whose members include the eminent characters Gandalf, Saruman, Galadriel, and Elrond.) The game is said to feature non-linear gameplay in expansive environments.

"Our extremely talented and dedicated team is committed to creating an incredible new experience for fans of The Lord of the Rings and role playing gamers," said Steve Gray, executive producer, The Lord of the Rings, The White Council. "With its next generation gameplay and epic new storyline, we think The Lord of the Rings, The White Council will be a huge success."
EA promises stunning graphics and an expansive game universe to play in, along with a high degree of freedom of movement.
