Apple sees 12% gain in sales with the Mac

By Justin Mann on July 19, 2006, 6:15 PM
Apple is doing quite well with the Mac, and has recently see a 12% increase in sales of the computer for the quarter. While overall revenue wasn't as high as Apple hoped, they pulled in a lot more cash profit and saw healthy market gains, with the Mac surprising people in gaining even when people weren't buying computers as much. Apple has definitely emerged from their long dormant period. The iPod also continues to do well, and with Microsoft ready to try and tackle the iPod tower it'll be interesting to see how well it does in the near future.

so do you think old steve will donate some money to a good cause like Bill? Bill's latest is 287 Mil to HIV research, + all the billions to everything else. No, I think Steve will just buy some new designer jeans he can wear at the next U2 concert.

Finally they got smart and decided to join the rest of the world and become PC compatible. Perhaps that is why their computer revenue is up. It's ok to have your own system, but if you can't talk to the rest, why bother. Their new commercials are extremely idiotic and show no understanding of the PC world. They claim the PC systems are boring... um have you NOTICED apple that the majority of high quality games are on PCs? They claim that their computers are more productive. Have you NOTICED that 90% of the world runs business and productivity software on an PC? Get real! The computer history books have lots of dead companies who failed to join the rest of the PC world. Atari, Commodore, TI to name a few.
They claim that their computers are more productive.
Especially with PowerPC, where you had almost no apps to run on it. Call that productive, the program you would need doesn't run on MacOS!
They claim the PC systems are boring...
Mac : Nothing to tweak, no mods, you don't have to build your PC, hardware and GUI are grey shades - looks like a rainy day, when you screw up the system it's much longer to restore, etc.
It's ok to have your own system, but if you can't talk to the rest, why bother.
An OS that doesn't work with the rest sucks also.
Their new commercials are extremely idiotic and show no understanding of the PC world.
Even older ads when the PPC G5 was the fastest PC in the world -> a few days after the ad went on air, when Athlon 64 was released, Athlon 64 vs G5 benchmarks showed that K8 was faster at a slower speed, and the ad still remained on TV.
