Samsung to release high-density, high-speed MMC cards

Samsung is preparing to release some nifty new flash devices for mobile storage. Most commonly seen in devices like cameras and digital camcorders, the biggest drawbacks to MMC cards has always been space and speed. Both of those are getting pumped up in this new line, which will see sizes in 8Gb (Gigabit), 4Gb, 2Gb and 1Gb. The “MMCPlus” series as it is called will also feature the 1Gb and 2Gb models with much faster read and write capabilities. Depending on the controller they are used in, they can read at up to 40MB/s and write at up to 25MB/s, which is much faster than any existing MMC card on the market. The new cards are expected to be available later this year.
