Transmeta Ex-CEO seeks to create low-power notebook CPU

By Justin Mann on
The former CEO of Transmeta has founded another start-up, and is looking to dethrone Intel and AMD for the top spot in high-performance, low-power computing. Though AMD has been making great progress in this area already and Intel is moving right on up, Montalvo Perry believes a $74 Million budget will get him everything he needs to create a contender for supreme laptop processor. Quite a bold move, but an interesting one nevertheless. The article is fairly light on details, probably because very few are currently available. As time goes on, though, it'll be interesting to see what the new company will have up its sleeve. Among the employ will be a former AMD engineer who was responsible for the K6 architecture, which turned AMD from a second-rate company into a serious desktop contender. Can he do it again?
