Windows Vista pre-RC1 build available for public download

Microsoft is making available Windows Vista pre-RC1 Build 5536 for public download. Although they expect to close the limited test after they reach the 100,000 downloads mark, it's likely quite a few more thousands will slip in before the file is removed.

This is the first Vista build made publicly available by Microsoft since Beta 2. Word is out on the street that the actual RC1 build will be released as soon as a week from now, which makes me believe that at this point Microsoft mostly wants to solidify its Release Candidate by ironing out as many bugs as possible.

This release was previously made available to registered testers receiving positive reviews.

  1. I'm running it right now. GUI is alot nicer than XP (both graphically (love the new desktop backgroungs which are quite sharpand detalis) and layout), it supports all my devices and drivers, and so far no bugs.
  2. can i upgrade form the previous vista public reailce build to this
  3. Yes, you can upgrade... I wouldn't recommend to keep upgrading over and over since that won't add to stability I can assure you, but the fact is once again you can upgrade.
  4. this would be the first time i would upgrad, do i loose all of the files or will i keep them?thanks
