CF cards are showing more and more impressive sizes. While suffering from an extremely hefty price tag of $779 and $1049, Sandisk's latest offerings are truly behemoth, offering 12GB and 16GB models in their Extreme III CompactFlash series. With a "minimum" read/write of 20MB/sec, they come a cut above most flash cards, though will still lag considerably behind a standalone HDD. Regardless, these sticks now sit as the largest CF devices ever made available, and even come with software that can recover data if deleted (to a degree). They have lifetime warranties, though I doubt they'll have many takers initially with such a high price. Eventually, for sure, they will drop. Cool stuff.
