Opera to be free for the Wii until July 2007
The Opera team, who made headway in the mobile market a few months ago when they released Opera Mobile, will be launching a version of Opera for the Wii. That was announced earlier this year, but many were dismayed that despite Opera being free for desktops, it would be a pay product for the Wii. Now we learn that, at least for a while, Opera will be free on the Wii, as a promotion. Until July of next year, Opera will be available for no charge. After that, it'll be purchasable through the Wii points system. That gives you over 8 months after the console's launch, which makes one think that Opera probably won't be getting much in terms of sales generated here. Regardless, I am interested to see what browsing on the Wii will be like.
