Yet another vendor has stepped forth and said they will be recalling batteries manufactured by Sony. A drop in the bucket this time, at only 16,000 units, Hitachi announced today that they are in talks with Sony about getting the cost covered, but that the amount is really too low to be a concern for their earnings. They join a growing list of companies participating in the recall, including Dell, Toshiba, Fujitsu, Leonovo and others. Sony's worldwide initiative for this situation hasn't surfaced yet, though they are officially recalling a series of batteries, and they are releasing precious few details. The total number of batteries is now around 8 million, and may increase even further from this point.

It would be interesting to hear from Sony about why this recall was required, and at what point in manufacturing the defects were taking place.
