AMD lowers prices of Opteron processors
Without a press release or any other fanfare, AMD has dropped prices on their server-class processors. Most of AMD's Opteron lineup has seen a drop of 20% to 30%, a much more significant drop than most processor price cuts. As the article speculates, it could be a way for AMD to help push excess inventory out the door to make room for newer chips. You can read the price cuts for yourself at AMD's site. This comes just a few days after AMD also cut pricing on some desktop and mobile processors.
