While x86 Quad core is barely more than a fraction of what is available on the market today, vendors are already beginning to sell platforms for it. Dell began offering their first quad core systems last week, and next week IBM will begin offering their first quad-core systems based on Intel's Xeon 5300 series. Small orders will be satisfied soon, with volume orders for some models being pushed out to December. At first, five models will be offered, each with two sockets. While not cheap according to a desktop perspective, the platforms are fairly low priced in terms of what the market offers, ranging from $2189 to $3049 for the various servers.
