Apple sells 500,000 Disney titles in 8 weeks

Once again proving industry execs wrong and paving the way for future deployment, Apple's recent releasing of Disney movies on iTunes has seen nearly a half million downloads in the eight weeks it has been live. With 75 titles at the initial launch, there are roughly 9000 downloads occurring each day. A huge amount of data and, for Apple, a quick $4 Million in revenue. They are, of course, pleased:

"This underlines the strength and uniqueness of our film library, and indicates there is a consumer appetite for movie downloads that complements demand for DVDs," said president and chief executive Robert Iger.
With the success Disney and Apple are seeing with this venture, it's very likely that other reluctant media companies will open up and seek to release their content online as well.
