HP introduces first quad core servers

HP is now rolling out their first quad-core systems, based on Intel's Xeon 5300. Totaling three new models each of various types, HP is introducing the new systems for their ProLiant rack series, BladeSystem series and HP Workstations. This comes just a short while after other big industry players, including IBM and Dell, introduced their first x86-based quad core offerings.

Getting quite the jump on AMD for this type of configuration, Intel may be well on their way to recovering ground they lost to the Opteron. AMD's quad core CPUs aren't expected for quite some time. With the high cost and high power demand of these Xeons, however, it will likely be only marketed to the business sector at the moment.
