Opera releases Opera Mini 3.0 phone browser
One of the mobile versions of Opera recently got a “social” update. Opera Mini 3.0, introduced today, brings many types of social networking and live news to the browser, including RSS feed readers, better support for MySpace, Blogger, Flick, Facebook and others. It also looks to enhance secure functionality by defaulting to secure connections for popular mail sites. The CEO of Opera had this to say:
"We are excited to improve on the mobile Web experience that has already been so well received by both end users and distributors", says Jon von Tetzchner, CEO, Opera Software. "I think the main reason for Mini's success is that it, for the first time, allows millions of people to use their mobile phones to access the same Web sites they do from their desktop."
This is not the same as Opera's mobile browser, designed for PDAs, which is a different beast and is not free. Opera Mini is designed to be much simpler, and intended for use on a wider variety of phones, including many that normally wouldn't have much browsing support if any at all.
