Octo-core laptops? Is it time already? Apparently it is, with L Computers International laying out plans for the "Hollywood Pro X8" laptop. Not just any octo-core either, but a mobile machine equipped with two Intel Xeon 5300 series processors with a total of 8MB of L2 cache and support an absolutely behemoth 8GB of RAM. And all of this on a laptop. While it seems too good or too ridiculous to be true, that is exactly what the company is aiming for, pitching it as the ultimate mobile workstation:

The company said its new Hollywood Pro X8 laptop will feature two Intel Xeon 5300-series microprocessors with four processing cores and 8MB of level-two cache in total, up to 8GB of PC2-5300 (DDR2 667MHz) memory, up to 160GB hard disk drive, Nvidia Quadro FX 2500M 512MB graphics accelerator and a 17" liquid crystal display with 1920x1200 resolution. The company said the new notebooks will feature "a suite of available optical drives from high-speed multi-format/dual-layer DVD burner to future HD-DVD and Blu-Ray swappable devices".
While it's hard to trust a company that went under just a few years ago and has resurfaced, with plans to do something that not even Intel has created specs for, if true it is astounding. I definitely look forward to seeing if they really intend this, and whether or not they can pull it off.
