Dell announced this week the resignation of its current chief executive officer, Kevin Rollins. The company founder Michael Dell will be once again holding the lead as CEO while still retaining his duties as chairman of the board of directors.

Kevin Rollins came into Dell in 1996 and not so long after that started to make strides, helping then CEO Michael Dell dominate the PC market with growth rates that left stunned main competitors like HP and IBM. Fast forward to 2004, Rollins took the spotlight as CEO, however since then the company has suffered from an ill fate, especially last year when it lost the #1 spot as the biggest PC manufacturer to HP. Also the company is under investigation by the Securities and Exchange Commission over accounting issues. CNet has some extensive coverage worth checking out detailing the last few years of Dell moves and how it has reacted to the market.
