Wal-Mart to enter online movie market

By Justin Mann on
What does Wal-Mart have to do with the downloadable media market? Nothing, you'd think, but despite that it seems the supermarket giant is striking a deal with six Hollywood studios, all in an effort to begin selling movies and television series online. Due to their position as a large retailer, they believe it will give them an advantage in launching an online branch as well.

Will it, though? So far, Apple has had it easy, with no real competition for (paid) video downloading. Wal-Mart claims they can bring in more films then they can, and remain “competitive” on pricing. Apple versus Wal-Mart? It's almost surreal.
