AMD introduces new media processors for mobile devices

As we had mentioned earlier, AMD introduced this week three new multimedia processors for mobile devices. The AMD Imageon 2298, 2294 and 2192 represent a new breed for processor set to satisfy the ever growing handheld audience that demands multimedia features. These processors come with a host of interesting features like high-resolution support for up 12 mega-pixel cameras, DVD quality video playback and recording, high-definition audio, mobile TV, and TV output.

“Trends such as mass adoption of video sharing sites like YouTube, and the popularity of the phone as a personal camera, demonstrate that today’s consumers value the ability to access and create digital media anywhere,” said Michelle Abraham, Principal Analyst with In-Stat. “Network operators can take steps toward recouping the massive investments they have made in mobile 2.5G and 3G networks by offering consumers value-added services that leverage the additional bandwidth, such as video streaming, video telephony and mobile TV.”

While you might be eager to get your hands on a new mobile offering some of the features mentioned above, don't hold your breath as you probably will have to wait until early next year before we see the first of them.
