Intel plans quad-core 3GHz CPU and 1600MHz processor bus

Intel has been planning a lot of goodies recently, include a slew of quad core processors. Soon, it seems, they will be offering a quad-core 3GHz chip, along with something even more impressive, a 1600MHz processor bus. They are still lording the Core architecture over AMD, and probably will for some time.

Whether or not a quad-core 3GHz chip will be available as a desktop processor anytime soon, however, isn't made clear. Power consumption and heat disappation alone make it a difficult task, though the upcoming 45nm process will be a huge step forward in making it happen. So far, most of their efforts for high-performance quad CPUs have been geared towards the Xeon.
