Sony to release Playstation Eye for video chat
Sony is introducing a new add-on peripheral for the PlayStation 3, giving people even more ways to spend money on an already obscenely expensive console. In what amounts to a webcam, Sony's “PlayStation Eye” also includes a built in microphone and is there to facilitate video chatting from console to console. The hardware specs of the camera aren't anywhere near impressive, so hopefully the as of yet unreleased pricing for the unit won't be ridiculous. It also comes with software letting you use it as a regular PC cam, such as being able to save photos and videos to your PS3. Where they could really go with this is to incorporate video communication overlaid into games. Nothing better than being able to see the look on someone's face as you're shooting them in the face. Online, of course.
The PlayStation Eye is scheduled for release this summer.
