Kingston Technology on Monday introduced a new version of its Ultimate CompactFlash storage cards, with an increased 266x write speed, twice as fast as previous 133x speed cards. The new cards come in 2GB, 4GB and 8GB capacities for $83, $144 and $280, respectively.

“Photographers using digital SLR cameras are looking for faster card write speeds to capture life’s moments as they happen without interruption,” said Mark Akoubian, Flash memory product manager, Kingston. “Kingston’s new CompactFlash Ultimate 266X memory cards maximize a digital camera’s performance, delivering the speed and capacity necessary to complete even the most challenging assignments.”
The 266x rating roughly translates to 45MB/sec reading and 40MB/sec writing, making them the fastest flash memory cards that Kingston has yet offered. In addition to the faster write speeds, the new cards will also come with MediaRECOVER data recovery software help restore lost, deleted or corrupted image files.
