D-Link to begin offering energy efficient switches

A day after Dell announces to go green, D-Link has announced that they will be overhauling their products to achieve similar goals. Starting with their switches, D-Link has launched a program very cleverly named “Green Ethernet”.

The new program will result in switches being manufactured with more power efficient switches that can put themselves into low power modes when needed, and adjust power output on ports based on the length of the cables attached to them. The new switches on the home and small business end are expected to start rolling out this year, with their more powerful enterprise units getting the upgrade next year.
