PS3 version of Unreal Tournament 3 delayed until 2008

Although Epic Games is keeping optimistic with the Unreal Tournament 3 release date, Midway today announced that the PS3 version of the long-anticipated successor to Unreal Tournament 2004 has been delayed into Q1 2008.

Midway CEO David Zucker cited technical issues with the Unreal Engine 3.0 as the reason for the delay on the upcoming PS3 title, as well as other big upcoming PS3 games such as Stranglehold and Area 51: Blacksite. UT3 was a big part of Sony’s E3 press conference, where they hyped up the fact that the game was a timed exclusive for the PS3 slated to arrive this holiday, whereas the Xbox 360 version would not ship until 2008.

PC gamers, however, will be happy to now that the PC version of Unreal Tournament 3 apparently remains unaffected, meaning that it’s still slated for a late November 2007 debut.

This can't be good for the PS3. Sony made a big deal about UT3 being a PS3-exclusive title in the beginning, but if the release dates between different platforms get too close together they lose all that advantage.
