Seven bulletins planned for Patch Tuesday, four critical

Microsoft announced today it plans to issue seven bulletins on Tuesday, including four that will repair "critical" remote code execution vulnerabilities found in Windows, Outlook Express, Windows Mail, Internet Explorer and Office. With this month's critical patches Microsoft has released a total of 39 updates addressing remote code execution vulnerabilities so far this year.

Microsoft also said three “important” bulletins, which is the second-highest security threat classification, will cover holes in Windows and Microsoft Office. The first one deals with a denial-of-service problem in Windows, while another one addresses a Windows flaw that enables spoofing. The third important bulletin handles an elevation of privileges bug in Windows and Office.

As usual, an updated version of the Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool will also be released on October 9. You can read Microsoft’s security bulletin advance notification for October 2007 here.
