RIAA wins first trial case
Unfortunately for Jammie Thomas and perhaps unfortunately for future cases, the first RIAA case that went to trial has ended in a victory for the big guy. While no doubt she will appeal, the Judge has ordered Thomas to pay $220,000 in fines for pirating music after the Jury found her guilty.
Hopefully this will not set the tone for future cases, but no doubt this will deter others from even trying to fight. Even more hopefully, the fines will be appealed and we'll hear about this case again.
That is not to say that all cases have been lost, as we know the RIAA has lost several in the past.
