EU delays decision on Google/DoubleClick deal

The EU has postponed their inquiry outcome of the Google/DoubleClick merger back by a few weeks. Due to concerns over competition problems and needing more time to solve the problem, the original deadline of the end of this week has been moved to November 13th.

Part of this is in response to Google, who has “suggested” changes to the merger. The strongest opposition of the merger comes from Yahoo and Microsoft, who also just so happen to be the two biggest competitors for Google. It seems very unlikely that anything will happen to prevent this merger, however, considering Google has done well under the scrutiny of the FTC.

Considering the number of other massive acquisitions that Yahoo and Microsoft have performed in the advertising market recently, it is obvious the complaints brought by these two companies are just red herrings they are using to stall Google.
