How well is the iPhone doing? Obscenely well, so far, with current figures saying that the company has managed to ship out around 1.1 million iPhones in the last quarter. Since the launch of the unit, they have made steady progress towards their ultimate goal of shipping 10 million of them before the end of next year.

At the pace they are proceeding, they might achieve it. The price cut, while controversial, has certainly helped pique more interest in the device. I won't be surprised at all if a year from now we hear about them reaching 10 million.
