The Xbox 360 fall update is just around the corner and among the most rumored features many were hoping to see in this update was the Xbox 360 IPTV functionality, after screenshots posted on Xbox 360 Fanboy showed the aforementioned functionality on a recently serviced Xbox 360 console.

Microsoft today issued an official response with regard to the leaked photos confirming that IPTV is indeed coming to the Xbox 360, but it won’t be part of the fall update:

"This was an isolated incident where these features were inadvertently exposed while the customer's console was being serviced and is unrelated to the fall update."
The exposed features included chatting while viewing live TV, viewing recorded TV and on-demand movies. Microsoft did not comment on the specific functionalities unveiled in the leak, but confirmed that the 360’s IPTV functionality will be a version of its Microsoft Mediaroom software, which was unveiled in June, and although this will be available to service providers before the year end, it’s entirely up to those providers to determine when the feature becomes available for consumers.
