Market research firm NPD has released its November console sales figures and, unsurprisingly, Nintendo's Wii was once again the clear winner with 981,000 units sold - the biggest month in sales so far for the sought after console.

Overall, November was a strong month for all three consoles makers. Data from NPD Group showed Microsoft's Xbox 360 in second place, with 770,000 units sold followed by Sony's PlayStation 3, at 466,000. Last month, Microsoft claimed that its Xbox 360 outsold the PlayStation 3 by a 2 to 1 ratio during the Thanksgiving week. Sony refuted the claim but refused to release any numbers. While the latest figures show a 1.7 to 1 ratio in favor of Microsoft's console, those numbers represent sales for the whole month, not for Thanksgiving week.

On the software front, four of the 10 top sellers for the month were Xbox 360 games. Activision's "Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare" for the Xbox 360 was November's top-selling game with 1.57 million units, followed by "Super Mario Galaxy" for the Wii with 1.12 million.
