RIAA targets 407 students in litigation campaign
The RIAA today took another step forward in their campaign against students, with a sizable chunk of letters sent to various Universities around the U.S. The “pre-litigation settlement” letters are essentially the RIAA demanding money or else they will sue. 407 letters were sent out total, far less than they have been known to issue in the past. As usual, the letters are primarily targeted at John Does for lack of identifiable information, and they are requesting the schools do the footwork for them in finding out who they are actually wanting to sue.
While they claim this is all in an effort for music fans to “legally enjoy” music, rest assured nobody but them is enjoying this. You can read all about the letters and forthcoming lawsuits at the RIAA site.

Yeah, lets take students to course because they are poor and weak and will just settle to avoid the distress! Its bullying tactics - picking on the weak. These guys are doing more to hurt music, artists, consumers and the internet than just about any other organisation on the planet, I think.I doubt that history will look back on them favourably. |
