Optimus Maximus keyboard finally starts shipping
After three years in development and many, many delays to the point of actually being labeled as “vaporware,” Art Lebedev’s much-hyped Optimus Maximus OLED keyboard is finally shipping to those who pre-ordered it last year.
Also available, for immediate download, are the OS X and Windows versions of the configuration software, which will have you spending hours playing with custom keyboard layouts. But while the OLED keyboard’s cool factor is undeniable, at $1,500+ the price is just not attractive to the mainstream market. Not only that, the folks over at Engadget have been testing one of these keyboards for a few weeks, and so far, their overall impressions haven’t been all that flattering.
