Intel Atom leak reveals 1.87GHz, dual-core processors

Earlier this month Intel introduced the low-power Atom processor designed specifically for mobile internet devices. Though the company has only publicly acknowledged a single-core 1.6GHz Atom 230 processor, a leaked roadmap shows that Atom will get a dual-core version and a clock frequency push.

According to Notebook Italia, following the initial version Intel will dish out two separate 1.87GHz processors, one of which will be a dual-core model likely capable of handling as many as four instruction threads at once through the use of Intel’s HyperThreading. A second processor would also receive the core clock upgrade but keep the same single-core design with a 533MHz bus and 512KB of Level 2 cache memory.

Unfortunately, there’s no word as to when those processors will ship or how much they’ll cost, but the roadmap does reveal that the known 1.6GHz Atom 230 will ship to suppliers for $29 each in 1000-unit batches.
