The U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) posted a news release a couple of days ago announcing an investigation to establish if the complaint filed by Gertrude Neumark Rothschild regarding patent violations related to certain short-wavelength light emitting diodes, laser diodes, and products containing them is valid.

The reach of the complaint is such that the ITC has put up a real A-list of tech companies that will be investigated which includes Hitachi, LG, Lite-On, Matsushita, Nokia, Pioneer, Motorola, Sharp, Sony, and Toshiba. The products affected by the patent range from handheld mobile devices, instrument panels, billboards, traffic lights, Blu-ray disc players, and data storage devices, which means this has the potential to become a very high profile case. We will keep you posted as the investigation unfolds.
