AT&T first to introduce Microsoft Surface in retail stores
Microsoft Surface is a very interesting technology introduced about a year ago that combines hardware and software to allow users to manipulate digital content directly with their hands onto a multi-touch surface. Until now however, there were no commercial applications of Surface yet, but just a lot promises and intended uses. That's about to change with AT&T's announcement that they will be adding Microsoft Surfaces to select stores in New York City, Atlanta, San Antonio and San Francisco.
According to the press release issued today, the Surface displays will be used to view interactive coverage maps and to compare phone specifications just by placing them on the Surface's table. The benefits may fall short for justifying the $5000+ price tag of a single device, however it's no coincidence that the roll out is beginning on select metropolitan areas, where it's expected to raise consumer's eyebrows. Depending on the success of these units AT&T will decide if it’s worth expanding to other stores.
