Opera previews mobile browser for Google Android
Looks like the browser wars are about to get as intense in the mobile scene as on the desktop. While Mozilla was tooting its own horn last week regarding some notable speed improvements for the forthcoming Mobile Firefox browser, Opera also had some announcements to make. Specifically, the company announced that a technical preview release of their popular Opera Mini mobile browser for the Android platform is now available for download.
It's a full featured port with full site rendering, zoom, synced bookmarks and integrated Google search. While not a single phone running on Android is available commercially as of yet, Opera is encouraging developers to check out the just-released app using the Android SDK and emulator tools, and provide feedback on the program for the upcoming beta version. With a number of manufacturers and carriers around the world looking to support handsets for the much-talked about Android platform, it makes sense for the Norwegian company to make some early inroads in this area.
