OCZ is probably best known for their RAM and power supply lineups which are targeted primarily at the computer hardware enthusiast market, but the Sunnyvale-based company is now turning its focus to the notebook market and plans to enter it in a rather interesting way.

The company today unveiled their do-it-yourself gaming notebook program, whereby users will be able to purchase a base notebook and customize it to their needs. Standard specs include a 15.4-inch WXGA display, an Intel PM965 chipset, Nvidia’s GeForce 8600M GT video card, SATA support for hard drives, 8x dual-layer DVD burner, four USB 2.0 ports, ExpressCard and a fingerprint leader.

Of course, OCZ is not the first to take this DIY approach – you may remember Asus released their C90 upgradeable notebook a long while back – but the company is going a step further by offering validated components in the system, toll-free support, and detailed instructions on how to complete a new system build. No prices or release dates have been announced by OCZ as of yet.
